Resting After Christmas

How was your Christmas? Mine has been unique and filled with some wonderful moments. I tend to feel happiest when I have the same traditions, year after year. Now, I have had to roll with the punches. A few of them really do feel like punches.

Our family was pressured into a totally different Christmas day plan. It was uncomfortable, but we still had many lovely moments with our grandchildren. With every pro there is always a con. I have learned that it’s best to just try to give in when I don’t get to do things my way. It’s not that I’m becoming a rug. I just don’t want to be selfish.

Now that Christmas has passed I finally feel like I can relax and enjoy it. It’s such a busy and chaotic time, with packages coming in every day, I just felt stressed. If I had prepared everything earlier, maybe I could have more time to soak in the magic of Christmas. We always leave our decorations up past the new year, because it’s too much work to put them up and take them down. Hubby and I will love sitting here in the evenings.

One of my favorite things was always holiday baking. I always made tons of treats for my family and more to share with friends and neighbors. That is impossible now, but my family still loves the purchased desserts. And, we don’t need as many as in times past. Young children love the plates of cookies and candy. I wasn’t able to have grandchildren here to bake with, but I can hope for next year.

My “granny house” really came together. I feel like I created a cozy place for Hubby and I that is welcoming to my family and grandchildren. I am so happy that we took our new-to-us 75 year old home and made it feel like we belonged here. God helped us to find a perfect place for us. He knows what we truly need, and it doesn’t have to be large or fancy. He knows best.

As the end of 2025 is coming round, I’m resting and thinking back on the many celebrations we had. It’s been a tough year. My health has brought many new challenges with a tough surgery and brain tumor. God has sustained me this year with His strength, when mine was failing. We didn’t get to have the vacation we wanted, and there have many firsts that seemed a little scary. We survived.

I don’t even want to know what 2026 will bring. I plan to do my very best and find great things in every day. Each day that I’m alive I’ll be thankful. Chronic life is very difficult with all the pain and limitations, so I will try harder to be present in the midst of pain.

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Is 26:3

I love resting today, because we worked so very hard yesterday. Today there is no rushing and we still have leftovers. Enjoy your post-Christmas days and I really hope that you can rest.
