Forget The Pretty Shoes
It’s official. I broke my right foot. It’s a displaced distal 5th metatarsal shaft fracture. This is also called the Dancer’s Fracture. The left foot is just badly bruised, and my fancy replaced talus is just fine. I was a little bit worried that the fall might have caused some damage to that area of my foot.

My right foot is so sad. I’m getting to wear the black velcro medical shoes that some people wear after surgery. They’re just so pretty and feminine…right? So, the doctor thinks that the bone will heal over time. When I saw the picture, I wasn’t so sure. I am to return for a re-evaluation in five weeks and I hope and pray that there will be improvement.
The doctor has me scheduled for a sonogram of the right leg to see if there are blood clots. Since I made it through two days of driving home, I probably won’t have to worry about it. I’ve had no symptoms.
I was relieved to get the x-rays done, because I was afraid that there was a break. I was really worried that both feet were broken. I took my two boots just in case the doctor wanted me to wear one. I was pretty relieved that I was able to wear something with more freedom. They’re also cooler with hot days ahead.
My goal was to start PT for balance, but I’ll need to wait until this foot has healed. Hubby and i both need this therapy, because we’re wobbly. Obviously, I am having balance issues, after falling twice in one week. The doctor said that I should definitely use my cane.
It would be so nice if I didn’t need braces, canes, wheelchairs, etc. And, forget the pretty shoes. Thankfully, they are available to me. I keep trying to look at the good things. It’s so often easier said than done. I’m praying that God will give me the strength to deal with all the pain I have.
