Depending On Others

When my chronic illnesses prevent me from doing it all myself, I have to depend on others to help. Everything on my list could have been done by me, alone, 25 years ago. Even though we moved into our home a year ago, we had never added cabinet and drawer knobs on our kitchen cabinets. I wasn’t about to try to drill the holes needed.

Thankfully, Hubby has many decades of experience drilling holes. I was more than happy to pick out the style and order knobs in a low/moderate priced set. They look so nice! It’s great to use a knob instead of just grabbing the edge of the cabinet.

The work I actually did myself totally crushed my body. Everything hurts and my wrists and ankles are swollen. The pain was so bad that I couldn’t sleep last night. My wrists were throbbing and my head was getting random stabbing pains. This hasn’t happened often, but is the same pain I felt when the doctors first found the brain tumor.

I’m so thankful that this tumor hasn’t been growing, which causes the neuro to believe it is a benign meningioma. I know that the flare caused by extra work will pass, but it’s hard to be pleasant when the pain is intense. Thankfully, I do feel an authentic joy spending time with this new lady my youngest is dating. But, I really do have to depend on others.

It’s also wonderful to sit in a clean and decluttered home. The crazy amount of work really does pay off. I hope Hubby can now relax and rest. He worked too hard and for too many hours. After cutting his arm at Lowes, he developed Cellulitis. This morning, we’re finally seeing some improvement. The cut was just a tearing of the skin. Being 79, he tears his thin skin very easily. The wound appears to be healing.

I’m thankful that doctors are here to provide us with medicine when we need it. Antibiotics are such a blessing when we need to stop bacteria. So many of the drugs I take bring awful side effects. I complain about them often and am seriously planning to stop some of them.

The good thing about gradually removing a specific medication is that the drug can always be restarted. I have sometimes found that a drug actually was doing more good than I thought. I hope that I can fight through some bad feelings to end up in a better place. Each drug is different, so I will need to be prepared with a Plan A, B, and C. The lack of planning in the past probably led to my quickly giving up a medicine dismissal.

For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” Isaiah

For the rest of the day, I’ll work hard to be happy and enjoy my anniversary with Hubby. With the sun appearing after a rainstorm, I hope to share warm feelings with everyone around me. Praying for this ability is almost constant. Without God, everyday is a disaster. I can only depend on Him, because I can do nothing good without Him.
